More and more people use mobile devices to access the Internet, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To fulfill this demand, the entity that operates the universal top-level domain extensions, ICANN, introduced the dot MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the idea behind this extension is that all websites that use it should comply with special requirements. In other words, all dot MOBI websites are required to be built to be opened correctly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the .MOBI Registry organization. These incorporate how a site is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.

The regulations have provoked some worries in view of the fact that the universal domain is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to access a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be built in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Considering that the dot MOBI Registry organization does not register domains directly, you can book a dot MOBI domain with any third-party firm, such as ours.
